Looking for an alternative to chocolate covered strawberries and something healthier than chocolate covered pretzels? Try chocolate covered apples! I used a couple SnapDragon apples I was sent to try out - since these apples are best eaten fresh, I thought a simple chocolate dip and toppings would be a great change up.

Super simple chocolate dipping and toppings:

Pick your chocolate - I used organic dark chocolate bars with no stabilizers.

Break apart the chocolate bar and place the pieces in a shallow glass bowl. Start small, a little goes a long way.

Bring a pot of water to a simmer, placing the glass bowl with chocolate on top, floating on water. Make sure the water isn't too high up, otherwise it will spill over the side.

Stir the chocolate as it melts. I kept my flame at low.

While the chocolate melts, cut up your apples, set up your decorating/cooling area. I covered a baking pan with parchment paper and chopped some pistachios. I also set out some coconut flakes and edible flowers.

Tip: spritz a little lemon juice on the apples before dipping to keep them from browning quickly

Once melted, dip your fruit being careful not to touch the chocolate with your hands.

Place the chocolate covered fruit on the parchment paper and sprinkle with your toppings of choice. I used pistachios, salt, lavender, roses, and coconut.

Place sheet pan with dipped fruit in the fridge for a few minutes to help with cooling and hardening.

About 15 mins later, my apples were ready to eat!

I loved trying these SnapDragon apples, and so did my son. They are delicious!

From their website:
"A new New York apple characterized by “monster crunch.” One of its parents is the Honeycrisp, and you’ll love the spicy/sweet flavor. Along with RubyFrost®, SnapDragon is one of two exciting new apples that were 10 years in the making and developed by Cornell University’s apple breeding program."
